Hi Igor,
most probably the surname is to be treated as of German origin, once representing "Gretschmann, Kretschmann" or "Grötschmann".
Also compare nowaday's spread for the surname Kretschmann in Germany:
http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/v3/Default.aspx In the region of Gottschee and Bela Krajina there are - even nowadays - to be found several surnames ending with -man(n), which all seem to derive from old German settlement in this region, obviously having quite a long tradition (beginning in the 14th century); f. i. Jurman [=Jauermann, Gauermann], Henigsman [=Hönig(s)mann], Rozman [=Rossmann, Roschmann], Dezman [=Deschmann, Deutschmann?], Plassman(n), Osterman(n), etc.
As surnames with -man(n) were not too common in Southern Germany and Austria in historical terms, however, it looks as if these surnames may have derived in Middle Germany (Franconia?), thus indicating that some parts of the Gottschee population are likely to have their family roots in this very region...
Best regards,
Andreas
